The River is a Christian church serving the East Harris County. Our heart is to Love God with all we are, Love people right where they are and change the world around us!

Our first focus is that all of our River Family would connect to Jesus in a personal and intimate way. Our weekly worship services are designed with this focus in mind… from the time spent in singing, to the time spent talking to God throughout the service.

We believe that to develop into the kind of Christian that Jesus wants us to be, we need each other. This is why we have RiverConnect Groups- a time where you can connect with other people experiencing the same life choices & turning points that you are.

 MEET THE STAFF

  • Rob & Bev Morris

    LEAD PASTORS
    Pastor Rob Morris is the founder and lead pastor of The River Church. We have such a heart for this community and a strong desire to show people the hope and redemption that comes from knowing Jesus. Rob graduated from East Texas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Music degree in All-level Music Education.  Rob is crazy about his beautiful wife and ministry partner, Bev, as well as his three sons, Blake, Ryan and Dylan. Rob enjoys everything outdoors, especially water sports! Rob and Bev started The River in 2003.

  • Kathy Schachtner

    WORSHIP PASTOR
    Kathy has such a heart to see people experience Jesus on such a personal level, she has served as the Worship Leader at The River for the last 4 years, and has been a part of the worship ministry for several years prior to that. Kathy has two daughters.

  • Judah Williams

    Interim Youth Pastor
    Im 28 years old, Ive been working in ministry for the last 8 years and love what I get to do. Since 2014 I have served on staff at Youth - Reach Houston. Helping the youth of this generation has been a passion of mine since I was teenager. I was born and raised in Houston with my family of 9.


  • Zaid Diaz

    Zaid, a minister with roots in Honduras and Pennsylvania, started his career in youth ministry and music ministry in Philadelphia. Graduating from Berean Bible Institute and Valley Forge Military College, he and his wife, Karen, collaborated in various ministries for over 20 years. Zaid launched music ministry schools in Houston, and his passion is developing leaders and volunteer systems for local churches. Karen, from a pastoral background in Venezuela, holds a B.A. in Education, working as an elementary school teacher. Married since 2019, they share their lives with two furry companions, Max and Stanley

  • Margie Gammons

    Margie was born and raised here in Channelview, Tx to her parents James and Lonie Casey and has 2 older siblings. Margie has been a part of The River family since May of 2012. She got married to her husband, Michael, in June of 2016. Margie and Michael are the proud parents of 5 beautiful children. She has a degree in Business Management from San Jacinto College, and a background in the Oil and Gas Industry. She has also been very involved in many ministries throughout the years, including but not limited to the Worship band and tech team, Women's Ministry, and Discipleship.

  • Vela Black

    Vela was born and raised in Houston, TX. She has always had a passion for youth/kids ministry from an early age. She graduated from the College of Biblical Studies with a bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership. She has been a member of The River since 2011. She and her husband, Tyrone Stevens, got married in May 2021. They both serve together in multiple ministries throughout The River

 WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

  • And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.

  • HG

    Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and was made human. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again

  • According to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.

  • And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son,  and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy (unified) and apostolic (Bible Believing) church. 

  • We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.      We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come. Amen.
